Retreat areas in a lively working environment

Shaping identity. Connecting spaces. Enabling transformation.

With its new office in One Chamberlain Square, PwC combines local identity with a forward-looking work culture – a place where design and function are equally important. More than 2,000 employees work here in an environment that actively promotes innovation, co-creation and customer focus. The PwC Experience Centre forms the creative heart of the concept.

Each floor tells its own story – inspired by jewellery craftsmanship, textile art or Birmingham's industrial history. This narrative spatial concept called for a unifying architectural element that shows character – yet remains unobtrusive. This is exactly where the collaboration with König + Neurath came in: with modular room-in-room solutions that blend privacy, technology and design into a harmonious whole.

Challenge: Create opportunities for retreat, integrate technology discreetly

Six individually designed floors, each with its own design language, were to be connected by a consistent spatial logic. The technical requirements had to be seamlessly and as invisibly as possible integrated into the overall design.

Our solution: THINK.TANK.II as a calming influence in the room

A total of 38 reversible THINK.TANK.II modules in two coordinated formats structure the open spaces. Thanks to their double glazing and acoustic optimisation, they offer ideal retreats for confidential conversations or concentrated work.

The fully integrated technology – from customised air conditioning and lighting control via TFT to IT connectivity – remains in the background. Black anodised aluminium profiles, concealed door closers and discreetly integrated smoke detectors underline the subtle overall design concept.

The result is a room type that is formally understated yet functionally impressive. The THINK.TANK.II modules structure and divide the working environment without compromising its openness – a real added value for hybrid working at a high design level.

Sustainability as a matter of course

Aluminium profiles containing 25% secondary material are also used in Birmingham. The CO₂-reduced production is certified by Hydro Low Carbon Aluminium.

Our role in the project: Creative partner on equal footing

The development of the room-in-room solutions was part of a continuous, collaborative process with the PwC project team and the responsible planners. Our aim was to create rooms that are not only functional but also aesthetically pleasing and architecturally sound.

As a creative project partner, we take responsibility for all phases – from conception and technical integration to precise implementation. Coordination, integration and reliability are just as important to us as our commitment to thinking about space in a holistic and forward-looking way.
